Jungle juice for breastfeeding mamas
Not long now before we’re back in the trenches with #2, which has got me thinking about all the things I seemed to have blocked quite effectively from my mind. I’m having PTSD-type flashbacks of tearful moments, overwhelming frustration, cabin fever, poo-namis, dirty hair and the endless days of leggings and my dressing gown.
And the breastfeeding!
I breastfed J for 9 months (literally until the day I found out I was pregnant with #2) but it was not the happiest of journeys for me. For many reasons – and this time I’m going to try do things differently. But the one thing I am sure of is that I’m going to drink more jungle juice.
Jungle juice is awesome. It tastes rad and for a sugar-fiend like me it’s just the thing to satisfy the sweet tooth without emptying a packet of jelly babies (though that usually happens too). I don’t think there is any scientific evidence to back up the idea that jungle juice will help you breastfeed but it makes sense that it will keep you hydrated, which in turn will help you maintain your supply.
Here’s the recipe:
Just mix it all together, keep it in the fridge and drink as often as possible.
If it is a little too sweet you can do half the fruit juice and half rooibos tea for a different taste. Either way, it’s not the cocktail you’re probably dreaming of right now but at least it tastes decent!
